Medicare Supplements, also known as Medigap to many, are insurance policies that help you pay the coinsurance and copayments Original Medicare requires you to pay out of pocket. In a nutshell, it pays the 20% Medicare doesn't cover.

There are 10 plans lettered A through N that each vary in what they cover of your out-of-pocket costs associated with Medicare.

Some plans will even help pay for emergency care that you may need when traveling outside the U.S. (something Medicare won’t do).
